A review of “Pimp in the Pulpit Part II” by Thomas Leslie McRae

Full disclosure – I was provided a copy of this book by the author however I have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own

Part Two – the drama continues!

Pimp in the Pulpit Part II is the follow up to last year’s Pimp in the Pulpit by Thomas Leslie McRae. True to the first offering, each chapter is less of a continuation of an overall plot and more of a series of glimpses into the life of a seriously dysfunctional family. Having previously been exposed to the characters and their idiosyncrasies in the first book, I was well aware of what I was getting into this time around. I think that it was for this reason alone that I really enjoyed my time as a fly on the wall of Edward Jones’ certifiably crazy crew. From the first chapter I was laughing out loud as Cleopatra, Minister Tierra, Vivian and others continued their pattern of lying, cheating and stealing to one up the other. The dialogue at times is gritty, offensive even, and I wouldn’t recommend this to the easily offended or the self-righteous. If you don’t mind humor that pokes fun at families with very exaggerated characterizations, then you may want to give this set of books a try. You just may find yourself chuckling at their antics as I did.

  1. Out of interest, is it a book where you need to read the first book first, out did the narrative style mean you could jump in at book two without issue? Also, did it maintain the Everybody Hates Chris feel that you mentioned in the true for book one,!
