Hi, I’m Jennifer.

Thanks for stopping by. I’m guessing you’re here because you linked from FacebookTwitter, Goodreads or another site. No matter how you made it to my little corner of the web, welcome!

In a nutshell, I am a mom of two and I love to read. I have been known to walk down the halls at work while reading my kindle. (Hey.. when you’re working full time and chasing two kids around you read whenever you get the chance, right?)

I was bitten by the bookworm bug early (thanks dad!) and I believe this love of reading has assisted in my becoming an “advanced reader” for quite a few authors. It’s amazing! The opportunity to read a new work, offer feedback and suggest edits or point out errors prior to publication really appeals to the grammarian in me. I know I’m not perfect, but I also know that for as many times a manuscript has been read, reread and edited, it never hurts to get a fresh pair of eyes.   Ultimately, I’m helping to make a good book that much better and helping my authors with honest feedback and reviews.

My hope is that site will serve as a repository for some of my older reviews and all my newer ones. My book reviews tend to include less of a retelling and more of how the book made me feel; what I liked and didn’t like with a brief synopsis of the book. I really don’t care for the reviews that spend 1000+ words rehashing the entire story. (Why would I want to read the book if you’ve just told me all about it… and bored me to tears in the process?) My review style would rather whet your appetite to pick up the book yourself and discover the story rather than to inundate you with a cliff’s notes version and a “book club” dissertation. I would like to think that authors prefer my style to the others as well, but that’s just my speculation.

A few authors that I am currently an advanced reader for are  Iain Rob WrightAl K. Line, Maya Tyler, Carol James Marshall, Carolyn Arnold,  and Tim McBain and LT Vargus. As you can tell, my genres of choice are vast and varied. In fact, there are very few genres that I will flat out refuse to read and even then, I may be persuaded if the right book comes along.

I have also recently begun to receive direct requests for reviews from many authors. This has been keeping me very busy, but I must admit that I get a little excited when I receive a review request. I’ve developed an entire system for keeping up with who has contacted me, what I have agreed to read, when I’m scheduled to read it, etc.

It’s really just a whiteboard in my room with a list of requests to be read and another list of reviews to be posted but it keeps me honest.

So, that’s pretty much me. Thanks for reading and feel free to check out some of my previous reviews. My reading schedule is such that I have been able to post at least one new review weekly, so there’s usually always something to see.
