Book Review: If Anything Happens to Me by R.G. Prince

When a one-time whirlwind romance shows back up in Georgia’s life after he unceremoniously ghosted her four years prior, she is torn. While wanting to give Warren another shot, she also does not want to be hurt again. The pair rekindle their romance again even take it to the next level. Everything appears to be going well, but appearances can be deceiving. What starts out as offhand comments and disappearing into the night eventually escalates to erratic behavior and physical confrontations, both with Georgia and her coworkers. This seemingly perfect and charming man from four years ago has turned into a veritable Jekyll and Hyde. Georgia is not only in fear for her safety, but that of Warren’s own child. When she is found by a passerby on the side of the road it is up to her sister and dearest friend to locate the clues left for them that will lead to the truth of what happened.

If Anything Happens to Me is the powerful debut by author R.G. Prince. Illustrating what happens when the person you love turns into someone you do not even recognize, this is a story that will resonate with many. Prince weaves the story of Georgia, a smart, beautiful woman with a budding law career and her whole life ahead of her. But things are not all that they seem in her idyllic life. The fact that Prince starts at the end and then goes back through to couple’s history to paint the bigger picture was a really smart tactic. Adding in “real time” storytelling interspersed with Georgia’s personal diary entries was a great way to show the quiet parts that Georgia did not dare speak. Prince’s storytelling beautifully combines believable characters with situations that may hit a little too close to home for some and it is this reason why she has included a ‘Trigger Warning’ for those who may need it.

I ended up devouring this title in less than a day, and even though I knew what the ultimate outcome was going to be I still kept finding myself hoping that another mystery character would swoop in unexpectedly and be the culprit. While I would not consider this a “happy ending” by any stretch if the imagination, I do feel that there was a bit of closure. It will be intriguing to see if Prince has anything held back for future Georgia stories to catch up with her after the events of If Anything Happens to Me. I believe she deserves her happy ending.

If you like fast paced, real life dramas that are brutally real and may hit too close to home for some If Anything Happens to Me is a title that will suck you in and have you feeling for Georgia throughout her ordeal.
